The film is still in touch with prekuelnya ie NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM first. In prekuelnya film tells about the experience of a night watchman called the Museum of Natural History (Museum of natural history) named Larry Daley. Museum of Natural History contains wax sculptures of animals or human figures who have influence on world history. One of the statue is a statue of an Egyptian pharaoh who is carrying an inscription Ahkmenrah / Chest of gold. Golden ark that has supernatural powers that could make all the sculpture collection of the Museum of Natural History comes alive at night and at sunrise, the statues back into inanimate objects. After going through exciting battle against theft of any object of the museum, Larry can be friendly with all the sculpture collection of the Museum of Natural History, including Teddy Roosevelt (President of the United States to-26), cowboy Jedediah, the Roman general Octavius, an Indian girl Sacajawea, Dexter and other naughty monkey -Other. In the movie NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 of this, we are told that Larry was no longer working at the Museum of Natural History, but a fairly successful businessman. But when Larry got a call for help from one of my best wax statue of the cowboy Jedediah. With agility and cunning, and is also assisted by a friend new wax statue of General Custer (Gen. America when America was a civil war in the 18th century) and the statue of Amelia Earhart (the first woman to successfully pilot across the Atlantic by plane), Larry managed to escape from Kahmunrah pursuit and his men. But unfortunately Kahmunrah managed to get a new ally that is a wax figure of Napoleon (Emperor of France in World War I), Al Capone (Chairman of the Italian mafia in the 1930s) and Ivan the Terrible (emperor of Russia in 15-century). The new allies Kahmunrah it also has a lot of fruit so that the strength Kahmunrah child grew, and managed to catch Larry. The ark of gold ready to be used to open the gates of the dark world. Film ini masih berhubungan dengan prekuelnya yaitu NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 1. Pada film prekuelnya menceritakan tentang pengalaman seru seorang penjaga malam Museum of Natural History (Museum sejarah alam) bernama Larry Daley. Museum of Natural History berisi patung-patung lilin dari binatang-binatang atau tokoh-tokoh manusia yang sangat berpengaruh pada sejarah dunia. Salah satu dari patung itu adalah patung seorang firaun mesir yaitu Ahkmenrah yang membawa sebuah prasasti/tabut dari emas. Tabut emas itu mempunyai kekuatan gaib yaitu bisa membuat semua patung koleksi Museum of Natural History menjadi hidup pada malam hari dan pada waktu matahari terbit, patung-patung itu kembali menjadi benda mati. Setelah melalui pertarungan seru melawan pencuri benda-benda museum, Larry dapat bersahabat dengan semua patung koleksi Museum of Natural History, diantaranya Teddy Roosevelt (Presiden Amerika ke-26), Jedediah koboi, Octavius Jendral Romawi, Sacajawea gadis Indian, Dexter monyet nakal dan lain-lain. Pada film NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM 2 ini, diceritakan bahwa Larry sudah tidak lagi bekerja di Museum of Natural History tetapi menjadi pengusaha yang cukup sukses. Tetapi suatu ketika Larry mendapat telepon minta tolong dari salah satu sahabat patung lilinnya yaitu Jedediah si koboi. Ternyata terjadi masalah ketika Museum of Natural History mengganti koleksinya dengan patung-patung lilin yang lebih baru dan canggih sedangkan patung-patung lilin yang lama yaitu para sahabat Larry dipindahkan ke museum yang lebih luas yaitu Museum Smithsonian.Di Museum Smithsonian ada patung lilin kakak dari firaun Ahkmenrah yaitu Kahmunrah. Kahmunrah merasa sakit hati karena bukan dia yang diangkat menjadi firaun tetapi adiknya Ahkmenrah, maka Kahmunrah berencana menggunakan tabut emas untuk membuka pintu dunia kegelapan sehingga para anak buahnya dari dunia kegelapan bisa datang, setelah itu Kahmunrah berencana menguasai dunia. Dengan perjuangan keras, akhirnya Larry bisa menerobos masuk ke Museum Smithsonian. Ketika para patung lilin hidup pada malam hari, Larry berhasil merebut tabut emas dari Kahmunrah tetapi akibatnya Larry dikejar-kejar oleh Kahmunrah dan para anak buahnya yaitu patung-patung lilin tentara mesir kuno. Dengan ketangkasannya dan kecerdikannya dan juga dibantu oleh sahabat patung lilin baru yaitu patung Jendral Custer (Jendral Amerika ketika Amerika sedang perang saudara pada abad 18) dan patung Amelia Earhart (pilot wanita pertama yang berhasil melintasi Samudra Atlantik dengan pesawat terbang), Larry berhasil lolos dari kejaran Kahmunrah dan anak buahnya. Tetapi celakanya Kahmunrah berhasil mendapat sekutu baru yaitu patung lilin dari Napoleon (Kaisar Prancis pada Perang Dunia I), Al Capone (Pimpinan mafia Italia pada tahun 1930an) dan Ivan The Terrible (Kaisar Rusia pada abad ke15). Para sekutu baru Kahmunrah itu juga mempunyai banyak anak buah sehingga kekuatan Kahmunrah bertambah besar dan berhasil menangkap Larry. Maka tabut emas siap digunakan untuk membuka pintu gerbang dunia kegelapan. Untunglah Kahmunrah tidak tahu nomor kombinasi dari tabut emas itu sehingga pintu gerbang dunia kegelapan tidak bisa dibuka. Tetapi Kahmunrah memang licik dan kejam. Kahmunrah menyandera salah satu sahabat Larry yaitu Jedediah dalam sebuah jam pasir. Laryr harus bisa menemukan nomor kombinasi dari tabut emas dalam waktu satu jam atau Jedediah mati tenggelam dalam jam pasir. Larry dan Amelia berhasil menemukan nomor kombinasi tabut emas dengan bertanya pada patung si jenius Einstein. Pintu gerbang dunia kegelapan terbuka dan keluarlah para prajurit dunia kegelapan anak buah Kahmunrah. Dunia benar-benar terancam...! Untunglah datang patung sahabat Larry yang lain yaitu patung Jendral Octavius dan patung raksasa Abraham Lincoln (Presiden Amerika ke-16). Dengan tubuh raksasanya, patung Abraham Lincoln berhasil mengusir para prajurit dunia kegelapan untuk kembali ke dunianya. Tetapi masalah belum selesai karena Kahmunrah masih punya kekuatan lain yaitu para tentara mesir kuno anak buahnya dan juga para anak buah sekutunya yaitu Napoleon, Al Capone dan Ivan The Terrible. Mereka siap menyerang untuk menguasai dunia. Sebelum Kahmenra dan para anak buahnya menyerang, datang patung-patung pendukung Larry yaitu Amelia Earhart, Jendral Custer, Attila The Hun, Sacajawea dan patung-patung lilin lainnya. Terjadilah pertempuran dahsyat antara patung-patung lilin pendukung Larry dan patung-patung lilin pendukung Kahmunrah. Karena pertempuran itu terjadi di museum Smithsonian, maka Larry dan Jendral Custer menamakannya BATTLE OF THE SMITHSONIAN Setelah melalui perang yang sangat seru, akhirnya kubu Laryr menang dan Kahmunrah berhasil dimasukkan kembali ke dunia kegelapan.
